A teenager with cerebral palsy will embark on an epic challenge in his bid for a new wheelchair.

Samuel Pallant, from Angmering, relies on round-the-clock care and is dependent on having a wheelchair that provides postural support and hoisting.

He now desperately needs a new wheelchair and an adapted van as he continues to grow.

Samuel has so far raised more than half of his £16,000 target and is preparing for his next fundraising challenge.

With help from his family and a team of volunteers, Samuel will be pushed from Brighton Pier to The Lamb pub in Angmering, a distance of 18 miles, on Sunday, November 12.

The 15-year-old has been collecting sponsorship via his GoFundMe webpage which currently totals almost £10,000, leaving him just over £6,000 to reach his target.

Writing on the GoFundMe, his family said: “Having a light-weight wheelchair, that meets Samuel’s postural needs, has been invaluable to his care and is even more important now that he is getting so much bigger. This wheelchair will cost in excess of £8,000.

“Samuel is also waiting for a new van with wheelchair access and a dropped-floor, to accommodate his height, with sufficient space for his toileting chair and other equipment when we go away. This comes through Motability, but there is a large down-payment of another £8,000 for the five-year lease."

Samuel’s mum Penny thanked those who have supported her son so far.

“We’ve been amazed by the generosity and support of so many people, some of whom have never even met Samuel,” she said.

“We are hoping that, with one last push of publicity this week, ahead of Samuel’s Relay Push on Sunday, we will reach his target of £16,000 to enable us to buy the equipment he so desperately needs.”

Samuel will start his Relay Push from Brighton Pier at 7.30am on Sunday, with hand-overs along the way to over 27 members of the relay team; he hopes to reach The Lamb at Angmering around 4pm.
