Photographs show a major clean-up operation is underway in a town centre after it was flooded.
South Terrace in Hastings is still closed both ways from Braybrooke Road to A2101 Queen’s Road after a water main burst yesterday morning.
Pictures show flood water has been cleared from the area but emergency services are still on scene.
A Hastings resident said the inside of Priory Meadow Shopping Centre is still closed as well as its car park.
He added that the majority of the shops outside of Priory Meadow are also closed.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service had to evacuate people from the shopping centre and venues had to shut.
Some people also had to be evacuated from their homes.
Firefighters could be seen trying to tackle the waters for most of the day.
Last night, a Hastings Borough Council spokesman said some establishments had been able to open thanks to the work of the fire service.
“Thank you to East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and their pumps, some venues in the town centre have been able to reopen this evening,” the spokesman said.
“Please check before you travel. There is still some equipment left in town as more rain is expected later this evening and overnight.”
