A teenager has died after a car crashed into a tree.
Emergency services were called to the A21 at Kent Street, Hastings, at around 11.20pm on Friday (October 27) to reports of a single-vehicle collision.
Police said a white Seat Leon Cupra left the carriageway and collided with a tree.
An 18-year-old woman, the passenger of the vehicle, was confirmed dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
The driver, a 27-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Anyone who witnessed the incident or the events leading up to it, or has any relevant dashcam footage, is asked to contact police at collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk, quoting Operation Contour.”
The A21 remains closed in both directions between the A2100 (near Battle) and A28 (Baldslow) following the incident.
National Highways said Sussex Police are on scene carrying out “complex” collision investigation work.
