The order which bans dogs from certain public spaces has been extended for three years by a council - and failure to comply could land you a £1,000 fine.
The Public Space Protection Orders (PSPO) covering rules for dogs in public spaces in the Arun District has been renewed and extended.
At a meeting of the environment committee on September 7, councillors unanimously voted through the proposed renewal and extension of the PSPO for the next three years.
These new orders come into force on November 6 and set out the rules that dog owners must stick to protect the district under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.
This is covered by the use of four different Public Space Protection Orders: the fouling of land by dogs, the dogs on lead by-direction, the dogs exclusion and the dogs on leads order.
Earlier this year, Arun District Council ran a public consultation about this and changes were made following the feedback.
The following new areas have been added to the locations where dogs are required to be kept on leads:
- Place St Maur (and other future water play areas), Bognor
- Discovery Garden in Hotham Park, Bognor
- West Beach Board Walk (off Rope Walk), Littlehampton
Councillor Sue Wallsgrove, chairwoman of Arun District Council’s environment committee said: “The unanimous vote on the changes proposed in the new PSPO show our commitment to making our open spaces enjoyable for all.
“As a dog owner myself, being able to enjoy our beautiful district with my canine companions is important, but dog owners must commit to following the rules to ensure the safety and cleanliness for others too.”
