Artist impressions of a seven-storey tower block which could be built in place of four seafront homes have been unveiled.

Plans to build a block of 42 flats at 145 to 151 Kingsway, Hove, have been submitted to Brighton and Hove City Council.

They include two-bed apartments, 30 parking spaces, two motorcycle spaces, 42 resident cycle spaces and 14 visitor cycle spaces.

CGI images show sand-coloured brickwork with sweeping glass balconies on each floor of the tower block.

But it would mean four 1930s family homes would be demolished to make way for the building, causing anger among residents who say the block would be “out of line” with other properties in the area. The Argus: The four semi-detached properties facing demolition

One person said: “We have a much-used secluded garden and the new development will cut our light, especially it will block afternoon sun.

“Currently the garden is not overlooked. The new flats would end this.”The Argus: Aerial CGI of how the block could lookAerial CGI of how the block could look (Image: Fortitudo Property)

While another said: “This bulbous and dense proposed nine-storey block dwarfs the adjacent Princess Marina Hotel to the west and Viceroy Lodge to the east.”

The building would comprise 42 two-bedroom flats along with 30 car parking spaces, with some saying it would put “increased pressure on the limited parking already available” in the area.

However there are people who feel the project should go ahead, saying it would be a “welcome addition” to the seafront.
