A woman who "spat at another person" outside a popular gay bar has been banned for life after a "horror" homophobic assault.
Revenge, which owns R-Bar in Marine Parade, Brighton, has said it will be conducting an internal investigation into how the security dealt with the situation during the Big Queer Quiz event.
The incident broke out overnight at the LGBTQ+ haunt on October 16.
Bosses say they have identified who is responsible for the attack and banned them for life - along with issuing an alert to pubs, clubs and bars across the city using high-tech ID scanners which notify security guards of troublesome punters.
A spokesman for Revenge said: "As a management team of queer people, we are horrified at the homophobia and transphobia that took place, so please rest assured that we are all taking this very seriously and focusing on it as a priority."
It happened during Hate Crime Awareness Week - and Sussex Police have said it is working to raise awareness of the impact incidents like this can have.
Officers responded to the scene after receiving reports of a woman spitting at another person in what they are treating as a "homophobic or transphobic aggravated common assault," and the force is calling on witnesses to come forward.
Revenge is conducting an internal investigation into how the security staff handled the assault, following "feedback" from clubbers who witnessed the incident.
"We have heard feedback regarding how the issue was dealt with by security, and are currently conducting an internal investigation to ensure we took the right course of action."
