A former Wilko building is at risk of crumbling after a council closed the road due to “potentially significant” issues.
The building in Bedford Street, Bognor is facing external structural issues and “emergency works” to make the area safe again.
A section of Bedford Street running alongside the former Wilko has been closed “in the interest of public safety” with Arun District Council and West Sussex County Council unable to confirm how long the road will be closed for.
A council spokesman said: “Arun District Council Officers have completed an external inspection of a building which was previously occupied by Wilko on Bedford Street, Bognor Regis and have identified potentially significant external structural issues.

“In the interest of public safety, there is a full closure of the section of Bedford Street including pavements running alongside the length of the building. Traffic signals have been placed at the South end of Bedford Street to allow access where possible.”
Wilko in Bognor waslisted as one of several Sussex stores which have already closed or are set to close in the coming weeks after the department store went into administration.
The issues with the building are not thought to impact other businesses and the car park for the Morrisons in Bognor will remain open.
