A builder has won a top industry award for transforming parking garages into an “innovative” modern home.
Build My Home Ltd from Church Road, Hove, was named house builder of the year at the Federation of Master Builders’ (FMB) 2023 national Master Builder Awards.
The awards recognise excellence in the region’s small and medium-sized construction companies and are run by the FMB, the largest trade association in the UK construction sector.
The company was awarded the accolade for its work on a new three-bedroom development in Wilbury Road, Hove, which was previously occupied by eight parking garages behind a block of flats.
The development, called The Green House, navigated restrictive planning rules by excavating the plot and adding a second storey below ground in reinforced concrete. The builders also preserved an ancient, listed boundary wall, along with two protected elm trees.

Floor to ceiling windows and glass partitions feed both floors of the home with natural light, contemporary design lends the property a cutting-edge look, and a living roof aids biodiversity, conserves energy, cleans the air and blends the building into its garden surroundings.
The homeowner said they “knew this was the company we wanted to work with to build our ‘Grand Design’ home’ from their first meeting with the firm and called Build My Home Ltd “a first-class quality house builder you can trust”.

Judges described the project as “an outstanding example of what can be achieved in a challenging plot”.
Michael Ford, managing director of Build My Home Ltd, said: “It's a lovely accolade. There's not many pats on the back you get in this industry... we've been FMB members for ten years and it provides us with a real sense of community.”
The awards, sponsored by Isuzu, were hosted by TV presenter Nick Knowles and were held at Grosvenor House in London last Friday.
Brian Berry, chief executive of the FMB, said: “This is a top-quality development, which truly demonstrates what can be achieved by a top quality builder, using innovative planning and construction methods. Managing to turn the site from its previous usage into a client’s dream home is particularly impressive. Build My Home is a worthy winner.”
