A seafront chippy has been crowned the best in Brighton by our readers - and they could not be prouder.

The owners of Captain's fish and chips say this is no accident, as their success has come from years of experience.

It brings the "art of frying" - which bosses say northern fish and chip shops have nailed - to the south coast.

Owner and head fryer Billy Sandhu said: "I am always learning and will never stop. There are so many conditions which are needed to fry the perfect fish and chips."

Its Icelandic cod and freshly-peeled potatoes have struck a chord with Argus readers, who voted them as the top chippy in the city this year.

After a busy summer season, co-owner Pam Sandhu said the team was "ecstatic" to be recognised. She added: "It reinforces our commitment to source the best fish and potatoes. Our suppliers know we value quality, and if something isn't right, it will be sent back and I'll never order from them again.

"I will pay anything for the right product, and this robust attitude has put our business in a strong position to ride the cost of living crisis and previous storms we have faced.

"Our ship will continue to be steered in a positive trajectory through the locals and tourists in this beautiful city."

The award was handed to the sailor's hat-wearing team at the beachfront chippy.
