Teenagers have been released on bail or de-arrested after a reported attack at a fun fair.

Nine young people were arrested at the public event on Saturday night on suspicion of offences including attacking an emergency worker and failing to comply with a dispersal order.

A group of people reportedly set upon officers trying to make an arrest, leaving one officer with a serious cut to his face.

Releasing an update on the Mayfield incident, a police spokesman confirmed six of the nine arrested had been released on bail and ordered not to return to King George Field.

The other three have been de-arrested, which means that the record of the arrest is removed.

Sussex Police Inspector Matt Chapman said: "We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incidents in Mayfield on Saturday night or has any information about those involved.

"A dispersal order was put in place in the area aimed at preventing groups from gathering and committing offences and that remains in place on Sunday, September 17. We will have a continued police presence in the area and the dispersal order will be enforced as necessary."

Officers had responded to the incident to help security at the event control a group of people.

Police were forced to use incapacitant spray on the group during the attack.

Any witnesses are asked to report their information to police online or ring 101 quoting serial 1172 of 16/09.
