Fatboy Slim and his famous Big Beach Café will feature in a new calendar.
The calendar for 2024 is on sale now and includes a snap of the DJ, real name Norman Cook, sat outside his café at Hove Lagoon.
As well as this, each month features a beautiful image of a scene from the lagoon, taken by amateur and professional photographers from the city.
Sandra Fisher, club manager of the Hove’s Deep Sea Anglers – or Danglers for short - came up with the idea back in 2022.
She, along with people at the Friends of Hove Lagoon group, invited snappers to submit their photographs of the area for a chance to be featured in the 2024 calendar.
Sandra said: “Because of its position on the beach at the far end of Western Esplanade, our club has access to wonderful sunsets. Our members love to take snaps of the skies over the sea and we thought it would be a great idea to publish some in a calendar and donate the sales to local charities.”
Sue Johnson, secretary of Friends of Hove Lagoon, said: “The important thing for us is that the proceeds from the sale of the calendars will be donated to our chosen charities for this project. The calendars will make great Christmas presents and we guarantee people will keep hold of them because of the wonderful photos.”
Abi Rose, who is Friends of Hove Lagoon’s social media and website lead volunteer was “delighted” by the number and the quality of the photos she received from local photographers.
Her own photo of Norman Cook outside his Big Beach Café is featured along with photos of other local businesses and locations we all know and love in and around the Lagoon.
Abi worked on the calendar production with Minuteman Printers in Portland Road, who donated their design costs.
All profits from the sale will go to Hove Sea Life Saving Club, Martlets Hospice and RNLI Shoreham Lifeboat.
The calendars cost £10 and are being sold at Lagoon Watersports and The Gather Inn Pub in Kingsway as well as some Marlets charity shops.
They can also be purchased online at https://hovelagoon.org/
