Brighton has been crowned one of the best cities in the country for bookworms.
The city came sixth in a new study ranking cities based on the number of libraries, book shops and places to read.
A spokeswoman for Aura Print, a printing company that commissioned the research, said: “The seaside city has nurtured a plethora of literary legends from Rudyard Kipling to Lewis Carroll, and is renowned for its culturally vibrant environment and eclectic independent book scene.”
The study found Brighton has an “impressive” 44 bookstores.
With 85 coffee shops, the city is “perfect” for book lovers to find a spot for a quiet read.
The ranking also lists books inspired by the city including Brighton Rock, Peter James’s Looking Good Dead and even Jane Austen’s Pride And Prejudice.
York topped the ranking with the most book shops and libraries per head of any UK city.
In second place was Bath which was commended for its number of green spaces to read in.
