A major emergency search is ongoing from last night.

HM Coastguard was responding overnight and into this morning after reports of a man in difficulty in the water at West Wittering. 

Coastguard rescue teams from Hayling, Hill Head, Portsmouth and Selsey have been sent along with an HM Coastguard helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft and RNLI lifeboats from Bembridge, Hayling, Portsmouth and Selsey.

The independent lifeboat from Gosport has also been sent.

A spokeswoman for HM Coastguard said: "The search has been ongoing since 8pm yesterday, September 4, and we have no further information."
