A woman who bought a “haunted” painting from a charity shop spooked TV viewers by sharing how she became convinced the picture was cursed.
Zoe Elliott-Brown, from St Leonards, went on ITV’s This Morning earlier this week to talk about the “creepy” painting of a stern-faced young girl in a red dress.
The 36-year-old bought the portrait from Hastings Advice Representation Centre (Harc) charity shop in St Leonards in July this year.
The painting first came to the charity shop when a man donated it with other old frames.
Zoe said: “A man brought it in and didn't say anything, he just left it there.
“So the charity shop staff couldn't speak to the original owner and nobody knows where it came from.”
She told hosts Andi Peters and Rochelle Humes how the painting had already been bought and returned, with the previous owner claiming it "ruined her life".
The manager at Harc even added a "possibly cursed" warning for those brave enough to buy it next.
Since Zoe bought the painting, she says strange things have happened in her life.
Her 68-year-old mother Jayne said she has had hot flushes and went “all shaky”.
Zoe's mother even had to wear four jumpers to keep warm.
Talking on the programme about the picture, which she brought into the studio, Zoe said: “There's something behind the picture, I know there is.”
Later in the show, staff in the studio decided to open up the painting.
They did it during an ad break in case anything spooky happened and revealed the results later live on-air.
Most of the team refused to touch the creepy painting but a colleague called Tilly offered to open it up.
She revealed the results after the break and said: "Well, it didn't want to be opened and it was very hard to open but I've prized it out."
Showing how the painting had imprinted onto the glass, she said "It’s got a scary…"
Host Andi said: "That’s more scary. You can see the face imprinted onto the glass."
Co-host, Rochelle Humes, said: "I do not like this one bit."
Andi claimed the temperature in the studio had dropped significantly.
“I am freezing and freaked out,” said Rochelle.
