The school holidays are nearly over but the weather is still looking pretty good.

That is a relief as those ideas for entertaining our youngsters are running out about now.

With the beach coming to the rescue we tried out what should be the ideal place for feeding them nearby.

If your children like different foods then a venue where you can order from different restaurants in the same place should be ideal right? Right at the beach?

Well the answer is yes.

Shelter Hall, if you have not been there yet, is Brighton’s seafront food market featuring seven unique kitchens led by Sussex chefs and two craft beer, wine and cocktail bars.

It has amazing sea views and plenty of seats.

You download an app, or order on the web while seated. You are warned that the food will come when ready, so you might get the food at different times. We got all our drinks and food basically at the same time though. And it was really good too.

For a start the Unbarred Brewery’s Joosy Pale Ale, £6.50, was an awesome, refreshing, fruity brew. The same can be said for the Blood Orange Lager, 0.5% alcohol.

The Sipsup Lemonade Raspberry, £4, went down well with the youngsters too.

I went for the Patty Guy’s green chilli cheeseburger, which has a double beef patty, house cheese sauce, American cheese, fresh green chilli and pickled jalapeno.

It came with a nice kick of chilli, just about right. And the burgers, crucially were chunky and tasty. Not greasy either.

All the meals my fellow diners enjoyed went down really well. The teenager loved the Katsu Katsu from Chick ‘N’ Bun. It consisted of a Cajun buttermilk fried chicken thigh, curry mayonnaise, lettuce, pickled chilli and cucumber.

Cairovan’s Egyptian Potato was a nice side with new potatoes and a parsley and dill salad in a cumin, garlic and lemon dressing. The Aubergine Shawarma from the same place was also really well done - a work of art.

The VIP (Very Italian Pizza) looked and tasted just as good as they do at their main restaurants too. They provided the pizza from the kids’ menu.

For £8.50 each that menu also has fish and chips, scampi and chips, chicken and chips, hamburger and fries and mini dips and bread.

So the vegan dishes, and the children’s food highlighted how this is a great spot for all sorts of varying tastes.

On a sunny day, particularly, even with hordes of people, we received our orders quickly.

So if you want to take the easy option while entertaining the children at the beach this is an ideal stop off for lunch or dinner.

For us it was a really good place to go before the cinema as it is so close.

The other outlets at Shelter Hall are Sear by Salt Shed, Rybka (The Fish Likes to Swim) and Coffee and Cake, which has fantastic Macarons.

Shelter Hall is at the King’s Road Arches opposite West Street on Brighton seafront.
