An injured man has been airlifted from a cargo ship in Sussex waters this afternoon.
A coastguard helicopter was called upon to airlift the man from the ship near Newhaven this afternoon where he was subsequently taken to hospital.
A spokesman for His Majesty's Coastguard confirmed that teams were sent to assist the casualty on board the ship and he was subsequently left in the care of ambulance staff.
The coastguard spokesman said: "The HM Coastguard helicopter from Lee-on-Solent airlifted an injured man from a cargo ship off Newhaven this afternoon.

"The alarm was raised at 1.15pm and Newhaven Coastguard Rescue Team was sent to support. The man was dropped off into the care of an ambulance and taken to hospital."
Flight data showed the coastguard helicopter circling above the water off the coast of Seaford before landing in East Brighton Park at around 2.45pm.
South East Coast Ambulance Service were also approached for comment.
