A woman has complained that Karen’s Diner restaurants tarnish her name and that she has considered changing it as a result.
Karen, who The Argus is choosing to keep anonymous, said the restaurant and entertainment experience gives people called Karen a bad name.
The restaurant name was derived from the recent use of the name Karen to describe a privileged, middle-class white woman who complains when it might not be necessary and may be over-demanding.
Speaking to The Argus, Karen said the trend attacks women of a certain demographic and that she is “disappointed it’s in Brighton”.
Karen, from Worthing, said: “There’s Karen support groups which I have joined. It affects the way you present yourself.
“The name ‘Karen’ has become a stereotype for entitled upper class white women. It’s damaging for businesswomen called Karen and they are attacking a certain demographic.
“What is the sense in promoting bad service in restaurants and businesses?
“They are attacking women, have you ever come across a male Karen?”

Karen added that the trend of using the name Karen as a derogatory term paints a picture of women called Karen as “over-entitled complaining b*****s”.
She also said that having a Karen’s Diner had opened in Brighton Marina was disappointing and believed that the restaurant should not open.
Karen’s Diner is a restaurant and entertainment experience where diners are served by waiters and waitresses who rib and ridicule customers.
Trained to be rude, funny but not offensive, the name of the restaurant is derived from the meme referencing privileged, middle-class white women and calling them “Karen”.
In response, a Karen’s Diner spokesman said: “Karen's Diner combines a restaurant along with an immersive theatre experience.
“Certainly a sense of humour is needed to understand all comedy productions and Karen's is no exception.
“The company identified that Brightonians, generally speaking, are more broad minded than most and eager to contribute to the status of being one of the most diverse cities in Britain.
“If there were any business people named Karen who might feel unhappy at our brand's presence, then they would be drowned by the 100 new jobs created and the addition of thousands of new customers that will be walking in and around our location spending money on Brighton's fabulous Marina.”
