My wife and I are frequent visitors to Brighton and Hove as we have family in Worthing and are fully aware of the extremely high cost of parking in the city.

We visited the city last week and decided to use the park-and-ride service from Withdean Stadium.

To say we were disappointed is an understatement! It is far out of the city in a location not dedicated to a park-and-ride facility. The number 27 bus is also not a dedicated service and took almost 45 minutes to reach the centre of the city and even longer to get back. Buses are infrequent and we waited nearly 30 minutes in the rain for the return bus.

My home city is Leeds and it has several modern dedicated park-and-ride services and facilities. Buses are frequent and get to the centre of Leeds in about ten minutes. I realise that Leeds has the advantage of motorways that are close to the city centre, but it is light years ahead of the Brighton and Hove offering.

My wife is from Brighton and Hove and was also disappointed with what her home city offers.

For a city that is encouraging people to use public transport and reduce cars in the city centre, what we experienced last week was very poor. Needless to say, we will not be using the park-and-ride service again.
