Signage from a city centre pub has been removed sparking fears it could be closed for good.

The Craft Beer Company, in Upper North Street, Brighton, “temporarily” shut its door on January 1 this year.

Owner Martin Hayes told The Argus in April that he hoped the pub would reopen in a matter of weeks but four months on, windows have been covered over and branding removed.

A drinker, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "I've enjoyed going here for years, now I'm worried it won't reopen."

Mr Hayes, who also owns pubs in London, previously told The Argus that he still believed in his Brighton branch.

“A good pub is about good people, and you need good people to run it. We just wanted some time to find the right person,” he said.

“The plan is still to reopen, and we are very grateful for the love that we have seen from people in Brighton.

“We believe in it, and it will be brilliant when we reopen. We just needed some time to think about how we were going to go forward."

The quirky alehouse swung open its doors in 2012, and quickly became a favourite among city drinkers.

Mr Hayes was contacted for comment.
