A man who was charged with murder after a couple were found dead in their home has admitted to killing them, but pleaded not guilty to murder.

Derek Martin, also known as Derek Glenn, admitted to killing Josh and Chloe Bashford who were found dead in their property in Lewes Road, Newhaven, on June 9.

Martin, 65, pleaded not guilty to their murders at Lewes Crown Court on August 3, instead pleading guilty to manslaughter.

During the plea hearing, Martin said: "Not guilty to murder, but guilty to manslaughter."

A psychiatric report is being prepared ahead of the trial date set for November 27.

Martin continues to be remanded in custody.

Members of the couple’s family have previously paid tribute Josh, 33, and Chloe, 30, saying they were “funny and loving” and “amazing parents” to their four children. Kayleigh Last, one of the couple's nieces, previously launched a fundraiser to support Brooklyn, Ava, Mila and Joshua.

Writing on GoFundMe, Ms Last said: "First of all we want to say thank you for all the support our family have received in this difficult time,

"Chloe and Josh were the most incredible and loving parents to four amazing children.

"Brooklyn, Ava, Mila and Joshua are safe and cared for and are grieving with the whole family."

"We are asking for anything you can do to support the children so we can get them everything they need and can continue to give them the best life that we know Chloe and Josh would have given them.

"Any donation, big or small would be extremely extremely appreciated by our entire family. We understand times are hard for everyone right now so even if you could just share this page so that we can reach out to as many people and get as much support for them as we can would be amazing.

"Rest in Peace Chloe and Josh, you will always be so loved and never forgotten."

The fundraiser has now received over £42,000.
