Motorists face difficulty in getting around the city this weekend as thousands flock to Brighton to celebrate Pride.
The festivities to celebrate diversity and inclusion and to call for equal rights for LGBTQ+ people return to the city this weekend with a parade, village party in Kemp Town and festival in Preston Park.
Several roads will be closed in the city centre this weekend, including along the parade route, as well as around St James’s Street and the Preston Park area for much of the weekend.
The following roads will be closed for the parade through the city between 9am and 4pm on Saturday, August 5.
- Beaconsfield Road - closed slip lane and bus lane at Preston Circus
- Castle Square
- Gloucester Place
- Grand Junction Road - westbound
- Kings Road
- Kingsway - eastbound between Grand Avenue and Kings Road
- Kingsway - westbound between Kings Road and Waterloo Street
- London Road
- Marlborough Place
- North Street
- Old Steine
- Preston Road - between New England Road to Stanford Avenue
- St George’s Place
- Stanford Avenue - between Preston Road to Beaconsfield Villas
- West Street
- York Place
The following roads will be closed for the Pride Village Party in Kemp Town between 10am on Saturday, August 5 to 1am on Sunday, August 6 and between 1.30pm and 11pm on Sunday, August 6:
- Ardingly Street - between St James’s Street Mews to High Street
- Broad Street
- Camelford Street
- Cavendish Street
- Chapel Street - between St James’s Street to Ardingly Street
- Charles Street
- Dorset Gardens

- High Street - between St James’s Street to Ardingly Street

Council leader Bella Sankey said: “Pride is a celebration of our fabulous and treasured LGBTQ+ residents and visitors. It’s also a protest and a reminder that we have much more to do to achieve equality for all.
“Brighton and Hove is the LGBTQ+ capital of the UK - that’s who we are and who we’re proud to be.
“As always, we are working alongside the Pride organisers, as well as emergency services to plan for a colourful and safe weekend.”
