Fatboy Slim has urged people to help with a charity’s final big push to complete its new hospice.

The superstar DJ, real name Norman Cook, is backing city charity Martlets to complete the work on its new hospice building.

Postcards featuring his handwritten, heartfelt message to people in the city have been hitting doormats this week.

His support comes as Martlets chief executive Claire Irving issued an open letter to the community asking them to stand with Martlets through the cost-of-living crisis and lend their support.

The hospice building has been remodelled at the original site in Wayfield Avenue, Hove and is set to reopen later this year. Features include 14 fully ensuite specially designed patient rooms, a space for reflection and remembrance, a family room and a café.

“I’ve seen up close just how incredible the care is that Martlets provides, and I’ve felt the difference this has made to me and the people I love, like hundreds of local families do every year,” said Norman, who lives in Hove.

“Please join me in making sure our community has a hospice home fit for generations to come and donate to the moving story appeal.”

Ms Irving said: “We are so proud to have served our community for over 26 years and we are just a couple of months away from being able to share our incredible, newly updated hospice home in Hove with you all.

“We know that it’s tough out there for our supporters and we understand that rising bills impact on us all. But with one big push this summer we’ll have an incredible facility fit for the future to help us keep caring now and for years to come.

“Our open letter to everyone across the 34 square miles we serve, from Portslade to Newhaven, is a rallying call to the people who have helped us get here, the people who know our care and those who may one day need us to stand alongside them. Please stand with us now and let’s look together towards a bright future for our community.”
