There is “nothing to suggest” the devastating fire at the Royal Albion Hotel was deliberate, according to police.
Sussex Police began their investigation into the fire exactly a week ago following the fire on Saturday, July 15.
The force is still investigating the cause of the fire but said there is “currently nothing to suggest a deliberate act”.
It comes after The Argus dispelled claims that the hotel was being used to house migrants and homeless people who were blamed for starting the blaze.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Sussex Police is investigating the cause of the fire at the Royal Albion Hotel in Brighton in liaison with East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.
“The investigation is ongoing but there is currently nothing to suggest a deliberate act.”
Demolition of the Grade II* hotel’s west wing is also ongoing and large sections of the facade have been knocked down following the huge fire.
The force confirmed last week that all guests in the 219-bed hotel had been accounted for.
