A Sussex fish and chip shop has been included on a list of the 18 best in the UK for 2023 by The Times.
Maggie's in Hastings was included and was the only representative from the county on the list.
A huge variety of chippies were featured including 1940s-style restaurants to fishermen-founded takeaways on the harbour arm.
The full breakdown of the best fish and chip shops can be seen on The Times website.
What did The Times have to say about Maggie's?
The reviewer for The Times was very complimentary, saying that Maggie's was "so perfect" that it almost earnt the section of beach it was near to a place on their top 50 beaches for 2023 just for that factor alone.
They added: "So fresh was the cod (straight from the market downstairs), so simple the dining room and so enchanting the views that I felt as though I was in some seaside pastiche dreamed up by Disney imagineers — a suspicion deepened by the miniature train that puffs through the tunnel beneath the restaurant."
On its own website, Maggie's says: "We're in our third decade of serving you hearty portions of the freshest fish, cooked to order, in a warm and welcoming cafe - the same traditional family-friendly approach as when Margaret Banfield first put her name above the door.
"We're right on the Fisherman's Beach so you'll enjoy some spectacular views while you tuck in to our fish, direct from the market below us and our specials are straight off the boats with the morning catch - keeping a carbon footprint of less than 20 miles. You can’t get fresher than that!"
Whilst Maggie's is open six days a week, it recommends calling ahead to reserve a table if you fancy stopping by.
They also welcome parties of up to 40 guests if you want to use the venue for a special occasion.
