Brighton has been named the third “craftiest” city in new data.
The “extensive” study, covering 88 UK cities, also found that Brighton is the city with the most crochet and knitting fanatics.
The city comes second only to Leicester for having the most craft shops per square mile.
Known for its wide range of vintage and charity shops, Brighton is also the country’s second “thriftiest” city, after Edinburgh.
The study was carried out by Liberty London’s fabrics team, who said Brighton “provides its large student population and residents with many sustainable shopping options”.
More than 45,000 people participated in the survey which found that 26 per cent of people consider DIY arts and crafts their favourite hobby.
“Crafting has always been a popular pastime in the UK,” said a spokeswoman for Liberty London.
“It teaches you new skills, and you can discover how to create unique and personal items that simply can’t be found anywhere else.”
Brighton is also in the top five cities for “crafting” ecucation.
“Unsurprisingly, we found that university-level arts courses in fields like design, crafting and fabrics are limited to the nation’s bigger cities,” said the Liberty spokeswoman.
The city is joint third with Leicester and Bradford, behind London and Edinburgh.
