People were evacuated from their homes as emergency services descended on a residential area of the city.
Residents in Lansdowne Place in Hove could be seen wrapped in blankets as they waited outside their properties yesterday evening.
Pictures show fire engines, ambulance crews and police working on scene.
A gas service van was also seen.

A cordon was put in place and large numbers of emergency service personnel could be seen talking together.
Sussex Police and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for comment.
