A town centre road which has been closed for three months will finally reopen after work to shore up a destroyed hotel was completed.

North Street in Midhurst has been closed for more than three months after the 400-year-old Angel Inn went up in flames on March 16.

Work to shore up the fire-damaged hotel, which started on May 15, has been completed ten days ahead of schedule.

It means North Street will finally reopen tomorrow evening.

A spokesman for South Downs National Park Authority said: “We are pleased to announce that the seven-week programme to shore up the fire-damaged listed buildings in Midhurst which began on 15 May will be completed ten days ahead of schedule.

“The work has included shoring up  the listed buildings affected and taking down the three large chimneys which were at serious risk of uncontrolled collapse.

“The side elevation of the Angel Hotel has also been safely shored up to enable vehicle access to the residents of Angel Yard, which is directly behind the hotel.
