Brighton shoppers have spoken out about what new shops they would like to see popping up in the city, with the overwhelming response being for John Lewis to make an appearance.
Residents took to social media to air their hopes and dreams for the city’s shopping future after the Argus asked, 'what new shop would you like to see open in Brighton?'
Many locals appear to have a soft spot for John Lewis, with more than a dozen requests for the store.
Other department stores such as C&A and even British Home Stores were mentioned too, but it seems John Lewis remains top of the wishlist.
Another suggestion that attracted positive attention was bringing back old favourite Woolworths.
While the brand may be defunct, many shoppers spoke with fondness for the store and the shopping experience it offered.
There were also numerous calls for Swedish furniture giant IKEA to open a branch of its popular store in the city.
Home Bargains and B&M were also on the minds of shoppers looking for bargain buys, with some hoping to see more second-hand shops like charity stores coming to Brighton too.
One shopper suggested Model Aerodrome.
Other more niche requests included a classic football shirt store, Sostrene Grene, and even a restaurant chain like The Real Greek.
With so many different wishes on their minds, it’s clear that there is no simple answer to satisfy everyone’s desires.
Only time will tell whether any of these demands will be met – but for now, it’s clear that the people of Brighton certainly aren’t short of ideas.
