Thanks to The Argus we now know all the facts and figures regarding the new building at the Royal Sussex County Hospital – cost £485 million, 11 storeys, two thirds of beds in single en-suite rooms, self-check-in kiosks, new food and drink services – the list goes on and on.
However all is not, in my view, good news because we also learnt that it has “a fantastic impressive glass-fronted welcome space, set to be used by one million people every year”.
Bearing in mind that number equates to getting on for almost 3,000 a day the problem of finding somewhere to park is going to be just as bad as it was in the old building if not worse because after spending all those millions of pounds, it only has 100 spaces in its car park.
Patients will probably find themselves spending more time looking for somewhere to leave their cars than they ever did getting the GP appointment that led them to having to visit this brand new hospital in the first place.
