Police have issued an update after part of the seafront was cordoned off from the public.
Officers taped off part of Holywell beach in Eastbourne, near Helen Garden, and were seen examining part of the shore following reports of an unexploded bomb.
A bystander at the scene told The Argus: “I could see several officers taking pictures where the tide had gone out.
“It appeared they had taped off the seafront and the beach, with some nearby pathways also coned off.”
The incident, which came as sun-seekers flocked to the coast as temperatures soared across Sussex, was assessed by the explosive ordinance disposal team.

However, officers concluded the item was an old engine part.
A police spokesman said: “Police responded to a report of possible historic ammunition being found at Holywell beach in Eastbourne around 9.57am on Saturday, June 10.
“The area was cordoned off to ensure public safety while the incident was assessed by the explosive ordnance disposal team, who concluded the item was an old engine part.
“We’d like to thank the public for their patience and understanding.”
