A mum said she and her children are devastated after one of their ponies was stolen during a destructive burglary.

Remy Klein, 28, from Brighton, awoke on Saturday (June 3) to a call from a stable worker saying the family’s beloved pony Trouble was missing from the paddock.

When Remy arrived at the stables in Hassocks, she says she found CCTV cameras ripped from walls and a barbed wire fence torn down at the bottom of the field.

“We’ve always had horses and ponies, they are really important to us,” said the distraught pony owner.

“My children are absolutely distraught and I don’t know what to tell them.

“We’ve had Trouble since she was born 14 years ago, and we raised her with my dad. He died recently and he lives on with us through the ponies.”

Remy believes Trouble was stolen between 10pm on Friday, June 2 and 9am, June 3 when the fields were unattended.

Three other ponies remain in the field but Remy and her family are desperate for answers for missing Trouble.

“We thought we saw her being sold online from a place in Kent, so we went up there,” said the mum-of-two.

“Initially it looked like her, but it turned out not to be.

“Trouble is microchipped so hopefully something happens, but at this stage I don’t even care about justice, I just want her back.”

Remy asked anyone who might have information on the incident to come forward, and urged people with video doorbells in the Lodge Lane area of Hassocks to check their footage for sightings of the missing pony.

She also said Trouble is not suitable for riding, driving, and has been proven unsuitable for breeding.

The pony also requires a specific diet and care due to issues with her knees.

Sussex Police were contacted for comment.
