The county’s newest hospital building is open today, a decade after build work was first given the green light.
The Louisa Martindale Building at Royal Sussex County Hospital, in Brighton, will welcome patients through the doors for the first time.
Patients will enter through a large revolving door from Eastern Road leading into a huge reception area, said to be some 50 times bigger than the previous offering, which houses a beautiful dark wood desk.
The building has a light, airy feel throughout and furnishings are sleek yet comfortable.
But it is the views from the rooms and rooftop seating area where things are particularly special – with scenes of Brighton’s skyline aplenty.
And while patients are set to benefit from the new building, staff are also said to be in awe of their new home.

Emily Spence, a nurse and change consultant for the building project, previously told The Argus: “I have been taking a lot of teams around the new building and their jaws have been on the floor when they see their new working environment.
“We’ve even had some staff in tears as it’s such a contrast from where they work now. It is a privilege to work with them on the project."
Letters have already gone out to patients to tell them of their new appointments at the Louisa Martindale Building, while wards will begin to move there in the second half of this month.
