Fire services are currently tackling a blaze in an outbuilding with an aerial platform on scene at the incident.

Crews are fighting the fire in Lewes Road near Gladstone Terrace which was first reported at around 7pm.

Four pumps are reportedly in attendance at the scene including an aerial platform. It is currently unclear what caused the blaze.

A resident who lives nearby said: "I was listening to music and could smell smoke and then the fire alarm went off.

"I came outside and there was lots of smoke, it wasn't dreadful at first but the flames travelled a lot."

A spokeswoman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “We are in attendance and the fire is believed to be affecting an outbuilding.

“We have been using two main jets and an aerial platform and there are four pumps in attendance at the moment.”

It is currently unclear what has caused the blaze.

Traffic data suggests that congestion is being caused by the incident in Lewes Road.

The Argus understands that residents of the building have been told they will not be allowed to stay in the building overnight due to the damage caused.
