A prickly thief who made off with a gardening glove was caught in the act when his crime was recorded on camera.

Natalie Philp, from Sompting, saw the clip on one of her eight Ring stick-up cams that she has in her garden.

The hedgehog can be seen hauling the item into its home.

The cameras are placed in a hog village she built, which is now the home to several hedgehogs named Luna, Ziggy, Mini Spikes, Big H and Pins and Needles.

Natalie’s love for hedgehogs started when she was a little girl when her dad would show them to her in their garden.

Now, 20 years later, she still enjoys watching and protecting the animal, especially with numbers of hedgehog falling in the UK.

“I have built a hedgehog village with three houses that they live in, with two dining rooms,” she said.

“I love watching them and think they are more entertaining than TV.

“I am a hedgehog champion and help them locally by putting up posters and helping my neighbours set up homes for hedgehogs in their gardens.”

She has provided tips on how to help hedgehogs in your area:

  • Provide them with fresh water
  • Build them a hedgehog highway – a 13 cm by 13 cm hole in a fence so they can travel from garden to garden looking for natural food.
  • Check your garden before mowing or strimming in case they have made a nest in the long grass.
