Commuters could face disruption to train services due to a burst water main.

The water main problem in the Three Bridges area has caused a loss of supply, which is affecting a number of railway stations and surrounding areas.

Rail firms have warned that this may mean train crews will be unable to take required breaks and that the issue could also cause issues for signal boxes which control trains in the area.

Passengers have been warned that Three Bridges station will have limited services and have been urged to check live departure boards online.

It comes as parts of Sussex lost their water supply following an outage, with Southern Water opening bottled water stations in Horsham, Pulborough and Billingshurst for affected customers.

A Southern Rail spokesman said: “Over the weekend, the local water company, Southern Water, has reported a technical fault, initially affecting the Horsham and Billingshurst areas.

“As the water supply has been restored in these parts of Sussex, the mains in the Three Bridges area have lost supply.

“This has affected a large amount of railway infrastructure.

“We are still waiting for a full water supply to be restored.”
