As Albion prepare to face old foes Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley this Sunday, we have looked back at their clash of 1983.
Forty years ago the two sides met in the final round of English football’s oldest competition at the old Wembley Stadium.
They drew drew 2-2, forcing a replay five days later, which saw the Red Devils clinch a 4-0 win.
With hopes for a better scoreline this time around, and as the cities prepare for another clash in the capital, The Argus looked through the archives to see how Albion and their supporters spent the day four decades ago.
Albion were relegated from the top flight to the second division in the 1982-83 season, so the FA Cup final was a chance to celebrate an otherwise dismal year.

Fans were in high spirits, with crowds gathering around a portable television on the roof of a car outside Wembley, while others, like Karen Soffe sifted through their bundles of Seagulls memorabilia.
The players and club were also jubilant, taking a helicopter from Riddlesdown High School in Croydon to the stadium on the morning of the match, while club director John Campbell was spotted with a toy seagull on top of his bowler hat.
Supporters that managed to box a ticket and make it into the stands were on fine form that day in May, cheering on the team as they took to the pitch.
But as we know, despite a stellar shift from the boys, it was not to be. This time however, could it be our time? Up the Albion!
