A shopping centre will be demolished and replaced with a supermarket.
The Meridian Centre in Peacehaven is set to be knocked down after plans to replace the building were approved by Lewes District Council.
New plans for the site include adding a Morrisons superstore as well as other retail sites, a library and town square.
The plans were approved by Lewes District Council’s planning committee on Wednesday, April 19.
It is thought that the plans will create a total of 390 jobs in Peacehaven.

A planning application for the development said: “The proposal offers significant economic benefits in the form of job creation during, delivery of an anchor store with interdependent commercial uses, retention of money in the local economy and the creation of jobs at the construction stage.
“It would remodel the town centre, making it safer and more accessible to the community as a whole. The buildings would interact well with their surrounding environment and represent a significant improvement over the current built form.”
The application had previously been recommended for approval.
Objections to the plan had worried about the loss of the current shopping centre during development as well as the downsizing of the library.
