A police officer who was found with multiple drugs has been barred from the force.

PC Daniel Matthews, 28, was found with Class A, B and C drugs while off duty from his job in Sussex Police.

Matthews, based in West Sussex, was suspended from duty after being cautioned for possession of drugs.

He would have been fired had he not already resigned.

Sussex Police Chief Constable Jo Shiner said: "I expect our officers to act with the utmost integrity, and in accordance with the force’s values, the Code of Ethics and the Standards of Professional Behaviour. The conduct of this officer fell far short of those high standards.

“Never has it been more important for the behaviours and actions of every person who serves within policing to be beyond exemplary.

"As a Chief, I will continue to drive out those whose conduct falls short of the high standards that I, my colleagues, and importantly, our communities rightly expect.”

Following a disciplinary hearing at Sussex Police HQ in Lewes on Wednesday, April 19, Matthews will be added to the police barred list.

The hearing comes on the same day as another officer was barred after being found to have downloaded child pornography to his phone while on duty.

PC Matthew Jukes, 23, also based in West Sussex, initially denied the allegations before admitting downloading the pornography to his phone in bulk and uploading it to a cloud computing service.

He was subsequently interviewed after the National Crime Agency linked his email address to downloads of child porn.

Jukes failed to appear at the hearing and will receive only a police caution and a misconduct appeals form.
