Traffic chaos has hit a road towards London after overrunning roadworks meant motorists were met with closures this morning.
The works on the A24 near Ashington mean that the northbound carriageway remains closed, with a diversion route in place.
Temporary traffic lights are in place in the area between Washington and Dial Post causing traffic to build on surrounding roads.

Traffic data suggests that delays of up to 12 minutes are currently in place with an average speed of 10mph.
Congestion is also forming around the Worthing junction with the A27.
The roadworks were expected to be completed overnight but are still ongoing.
