A quarter of Brighton residents would not date someone with bad teeth, a survey has found.

The research by a dental clinic found 26.4 per cent of people living in the city would not date someone if they did not like their smile.

It also found one in four people are unhappy with their teeth with 15 per cent also unhappy with their smile.

Dr Martina Karlo, a dentist behind the Dentelli clinic, said: “Many Brits are in limbo, unable to get the treatment they want. That has a drastic, negative impact on their lives.

“Our patients regularly tell us how they now see themselves through social media and video calls. Likewise Love Island and celebrity culture has changed perceptions of how the ‘ideal smile’ looks.

The survey comes as Dentelli begins to welcome patients to its clinic in Split, Croatia, offering an EU regulated alternative to “Turkey teeth”.
