A gym co-founded by a former Albion keeper has celebrated its second anniversary.
PHX Gym in Crowhurst Road, Hollingbury, opened during the pandemic but had to close as government restrictions changed.
The gym reopened for good on April 12, 2021, as restrictions eased and has continued to grow since then.
It was co-founded by former Albion shot-stopper Michel Kuipers who started the business with Mark Boyce and James Marshall.
Kuipers, 48, who played for Brighton for ten years, said: “Since the day we opened, we had an influx of new members.
"It was just after Covid. People were just starting to come out again. People wanted to improve their physicality, fitness levels and mental wellbeing.
“It has been great that we have been able to provide that for people in Brighton.
“I have seen members come in here who have had an amazing transformation mentally and physically. It’s like a family in here.”

The gym has a wide range of equipment, including treadmills, bikes, crosstrainers, stairmasters, over 100 pin and plate loaded resistance machines, two dumbbell areas, two ten metre astro turf lanes for functional training and a mirrored studio for classes and hire.
There is also a unisex hair salon, tanning station and juice bar within the building.
Phx Gym has another branch in Burgess Hill too.
Kuipers added: “We’re really happy with how it has been going at the gym. We have seen a great variety of members, people who have never been to the gym before to people who are experienced athletes.
“In the gym, we have a barber shop/hair salon, sunbed station. We have an extensive selection of nutrition products.
“We have some of the best personal trainers and we also have a sports therapist. It’s the complete package.”
