Customers are upset after arriving at a shopping centre to find that it was closed for Easter Sunday.

Shoppers had walked to Churchill Square in Brighton only to find a sign on the centre’s doors saying it was shut for the day.

The news comes after the centre had amended its opening hours for the bank holiday weekend with a notice on its website stating it would not open on Easter Sunday.

One shopper who had travelled from Hertfordshire for the day said: “Businesses are struggling with the cost of living and you’ve got all these people coming down to visit, and the mall isn’t even bloody open. It’s dreadful.”

Many customers had turned up at the Brighton city centre retailer expecting it to be open.

But a notice on the Churchill Square website said it would be open from 9am on Good Friday and Saturday and would close at 6pm on Easter Monday.

The sign said the centre was closed on Easter Sunday with “normal trading” to resume tomorrow.

The shopping centre management apologised for “any inconvenience this may cause”.
