Baby bottles from a maternity ward have been donated to a farm to feed newborn lambs.

Some 30 unwanted bottles from the maternity teams at University Hospitals Sussex were donated to Coombes Farm in Lancing.

They were quickly put to good use feeding the new lambs with milk.

A spokeswoman for the NHS Trust said: “Our maternity team were delighted to be able to donate 30 bottles that needed a new home and what better place for them to go then to Coombes Farm to feed the lambs?

“From feeding our babies to little lambs, we’re happy to see them going to great use.”

The farm is home to the Passmore family, who have been working the land there for five generations, since 1901.

Their lambing team has urged people to donate any unwanted baby bottles to the farm to help them “do our bit for the planet”.

A spokeswoman for Coombes Farm said: “We take all shapes and sizes, so don’t worry if they are worn or marked - the lambs won’t mind.”

Lambing season traditionally starts in early spring, reaching its peak in March and April.

However, the season can sometimes start as early as December and go on to as late as June.

Lambing time at Coombes Farm will last until April 16 this year, with around 600 ewes lambing and 1,000 lambs expected to be born.

Those visiting the farm can also take a trip on a tractor for £4.

The farm’s owners are encouraging visitors to take pictures and share them on Facebook for a cutest lamb photo competition.

The winners will receive a free family return trip to the farm for up to four people.
