Vehicles are queueing for miles near Worthing after a collision with overhead power lines down into the road.
The A27 at Broadwater is shut eastbound as emergency services work to remove the fallen cabling.
Congestion stretches for two miles up to Durrington.
Images from the scene shows what appears to be the fallen cables propped up by temporary pylons.
It is not yet known whether there have been any injuries or when the road will reopen.
