A renowned Canadian street artist is to add a mural to Brighton’s thriving street art scene in her first work in the UK.
Ola Volo, who has works across North America including in Los Angeles and Miami, will be painting her artwork in Trafalgar Street in North Laine.
The artwork will aim to “promote messages of positivity and self-confidence” and will be a permanent addition to the city.
Ola, who has a significant following on Instagram, said: “My work is about positivity, not provocation. It’s a beautiful, journey learning to enjoy being yourself.
“I use a lot of female figures and I like to create characters that make people feel free and confident to take up space in their own way.
“I can’t wait to see how people in this special city will respond to my work.”
Ola has been working on the mural since Monday as is set to be finished by the end of Wednesday, April 5.
Her art is being supported by Enter Gallery in Bond Street, who helped to convince Ola to do her first mural outside of North America in Brighton.
The mural in Brighton is inspired by a female version of the joker playing card.

Many of Ola’s murals prominently feature female characters and animals such as tigers and birds.
Ola also talks openly about her experience of being a female street artist, a scene which is heavily male dominated.
Lawrence Alkin, Founder of Enter Gallery, said: “This event is a rare chance to see a top-level street artist at work.
“This collaboration with Ola Volo continues Enter Gallery’s mission to demystify art and support emerging artists. We are proud to be bringing Ola into Brighton’s street art hall of fame.”
Enter Gallery has been open in Brighton for the past 30 years and has helped to start careers of street artists including Banksy.
Ola will be demonstrating her art as part of a Brighton street art tour organised by graffiti artist REQ on Wednesday, April 5.
She will also be releasing prints of her work for the first time in the UK.
