This book was written by Tricia Levenseller and was published in 2017. Daughter of the Pirate King is about a young woman, Alosa, and her mission to find an ancient hidden map. She allows herself to be captured by her enemies in order to search their ship for this map. The book follows her along her journey and the troubles she comes across.
I particularly liked Alosa's no-nonsense attitude and witty sense of humour, along with her confidence, intelligence and how calculating she is. I strongly believe that she is a feminist, with her belief in her ability to do everything for herself and with her captaining her own all female crew.
I do, however, think that the supernatural side of the plot should have been introduced earlier on in the book as, while it did make some sense, it almost seemed like an afterthought due to it being introduced so deep into the storyline. I also feel that the relationship between Alosa and Riden could have been built up in a more intense way, although I do quite like how easy it seems for them to be around eachother.
Overall I loved this book, I felt like I was flying through it due to the fast paced story. The author did a great job at hiding bits of information within the story and slowly revealing them. She was also great at letting her character make mistakes and it being okay. I think that this book is aimed at young adults, it's filled with adventure, it also has fantasy and some romance. If you like reading about adventures or fantasy then I would recommend this to you, it's great if you want a quick read or if you want to read something fast paced.
Lucia Ruiz says, "One of the best stories I've read, waiting to read the sequel. Well written! In love! Contains romance, action and independence."
