The owner of a popular city pub which closed on New Year’s Day is aiming to reopen by the end of the month.

Brighton’s Craft Beer Company, in Upper North Street, faced an uncertain future since shutting its doors, but boss Martin Hayes is hopeful of relaunching the venue in the coming weeks.

“A good pub is about good people, and you need good people to run it. We just wanted some time to find the right person,” he said.

“The plan is still to reopen, and we are very grateful for the love that we have seen from people in Brighton.

“We believe in it, and it will be brilliant when we reopen. We just needed some time to think about how we were going to go forward.

The quirky alehouse swung open its doors in 2012, and has since become a staple among the city’s craft beer lovers, many of who took to social media to express their concern at its loss.

“I really enjoyed drinking in this pub. The owner and staff were very knowledgeable and friendly. Very sorry to hear it has closed,” said one person.

Another said: “So sad to hear this. We’ve been at least weekly customers for years. Desperately hope this pub can rise again.”

The Argus previously visited the pub and gave both its beer and food a glowing review.

We said: “The Craft Beer Company has gained a strong reputation for its ability to meet the whims of even the most demanding of beer connoisseurs with all manner of beers, ales, stouts, ciders and lagers.

“With their own twist on the Graceland staple sandwich of peanut butter, banana and bacon, the Craft Beer Company’s meat technicians Forty Burgers have added a beef burger into the mix.

“It certainly is something new for my taste buds to contend with and even amid all the confusion of the competing flavours, the succulence of the beef burger and the crispy bacon do shine through.”
