A historic lido is calling for people to join its lifeguard team ahead of a busy summer season.
Saltdean Lido needs at least a dozen lifeguards to work shifts this summer.
People who join the lifeguard team will have their national pool lifeguard qualification paid for at no cost.
Derek Leaver, chairman of Saltdean Lido Community Interest Company, said it is a great job for people of any age, whether that be people at college or those who have recently retired.
The 90-year-old lido attracts thousands of swimmers every year.
Derek said: “We are building a brand new team and have already recruited a general manager. We need at least a dozen lifeguards to work shifts for the summer season.
“In line with our ambition to generate local employment we are sponsoring the training of any young people trying to get into the leisure industry by providing training for a national pool lifeguard qualification at no cost.
“This is a nationally recognised qualification and will also give them life skills in resuscitation and so on. It will also give them a summer job in a fun, outdoor environment in an iconic setting.

“However, there is no age limit to being a lifeguard so the offer is also open to people of any age. It could be an attractive option for newly retired people looking for a full or part time role in the community in a lovely setting. Volunteer lifeguards are also welcome.
“Summers are getting hotter and we can see an increasing demand for leisure swimming in clean water and in a safe environment.
“More and more people are realising the physical benefits of regular swimming and so we are keen to keep the pool open for as long as possible during the summer days and our only real limitation on this is availability of lifeguards, so the more we can get the better.”
SLCIC are operating the lido pool alongside new partner Wave Leisure.
Recruitment is already underway for lifeguards but those interest can visit Wave Leisure’s vacancies on its website.
