The body of a man found on a beach is believed to be that of a missing person.

Gabriel Pol, 53, from Brighton, had last been seen on Friday morning and was captured on CCTV in the area of the Palace Pier.

Sussex Police took to social media in their search for him and said they were “very concerned” about his welfare.

He was described as a white man of slim build, with short grey hair and glasses.

It was thought by police that he may have been in the Brighton area, with officers urging the public to call 999 if they spotted him.

Emergency services were called to a section of the coast between Rottingdean and Ovingdean yesterday morning following reports of a body on the beach.

Newhaven and Shoreham Coastguard rescue teams were also called to the scene.

Officers have said that, although formal identification is yet to take place, the body is believed to be that of Mr Pol.

The death is not being treated as suspicious, police confirmed.
