The city’s diners have voted for the top restaurants and small plates are coming up top.
Four of the top five spots in Brighton’s Best Restaurant Awards top 30 list this year were held by eateries offering affordable menus.
In total, half the list was made up of restaurants serving variations on the good value, casual small plates dining theme.
Palmito in Western Road is the highest new entry on the list at number two, and was also voted Best New Opening. It offers spicy dishes such as grilled Peruvian skirt steak anticuchos from £6.50.
Bincho Yakitori in Preston Street was number one for the second year running. Prices start at £3.50 for authentic Izakaya cuisine.
In third was Burnt Orange restaurant and bar in The Lanes, where wood-fired small plates start at £8.

“People are feeling the pinch at the moment but they still want to go out and enjoy themselves and Brighton’s restaurant scene is delivering the solution to that problem in spades,” said Brighton’s Best co-founder Euan MacDonald.
“There is incredible variety within the small plates sector too with Japanese, Indian, Peruvian, Mexican, French, Mediterranean and other cuisines all represented.
"Small plate dining gives customers the option to order what their budget can stretch to so they can enjoy a night out without worrying about how they’re going to pay their energy bill at the end of the month.”
Despite the cost-of-living crisis, fine dining is still popular in the city, demonstrated by Furna, an upmarket tasting menu restaurant in New Road, and a new entry at number 14 in the list.
Brighton’s Best fine dining stalwarts The Little Fish Market, The Set and Etch also remain firm favourites in the list with plenty of positive comments from the voters.
